a packed week
Packed and packing. Filling the suitcase with clothes, fabrics, and a few small quilts to take with me to Clos de Lande Vallée in Brittany, where I will be teaching for five days next week.
The problem with packing ahead of time is that I can't remember whether I have already packed my rotary cutter, seam ripper,etc. etc. and now I have to rifle through my stuff to make sure. Sometimes I think it is not worth trying to be planful. It's really not my style.
Emballé et emballant. Mettant des vêtements, des tissus, et quelques petits quilts à emporter en Bretagne,où je passerai cinq jours enseignant, la semaine prochaine, à Clos de Lande Vallée. Mais c'est un problème de remplir la valise une semaine avant le voyage parce que maintenant je ne me rapelle pas si j'y ai mis mon rotatif, mon découseur, etc.. Maintenant je dois fouiller mes choses pour en être sur. Je me demande s'il vaut la peine de planifier en avance. Hélas, je crois que non - ce n'est pas mon style.
A New York Story
Well, really an afternoon in Brooklyn. Last Saturday, Phil and I went in to visit Jessica, Tommy, and Miss Emma. I no longer drive to NY; it is easier to take the bus and the wonderful NY subway -- always an adventure. We got out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and walked to the Times Sq subway stop, a couple of blocks away. You know you are in Manhattan when you see these on the midtown streets. What would midtown be without its food carts?? We are in the theater district.
Vraiment,un après-midi en Brooklyn. Samedi dernier, Phil et moi - nous sommes allés faire visite à Jessica, Tommy, et Mlle Emma. Je ne conduit plus à NY - il est plus facile d'aller en autobus et par subway - toujours une aventure. Nous avons quitté le Port Authority Bus Terminal et nous avons marché jusqu'au subway, pas loin. On sait qu'on est à Manhattan quand on voit ces charettes alimentaires. Nous sommes dans le quartier du théatre.
Seems to me that the 42nd St. station has been redecorated since I saw it last. Either that, or I was in too big a hurry to notice. Tile - very Roy Lichenstein. I wonder if he designed it.
Il me semble que la station de 42nd st a été rédecorée -- ou peut-être j'étais trop pressé pour le noter la dernière fois que j'ai été là. Cela se ressemble à l'art de Roy Lichenstein. Est-ce qu'il l'a dessiné?
Then, this fabulous tile mural - and others, which I did not photograph. Very '30's. Reminds me of the WPA art. LOVE it.
Puis, ce mur formidable -et des autres que je n'ai pas photographié. Très 1930's - comme l'art du WPA. Je l'adore!
After we went through the turnstiles and walked to get the Q train, I noticed lots of little niches in the wall. Ceramic art. Here are two.

Unlike the Underground and the Métro in London and Paris, the NYC subway is not easy to navigate. They combined three different subway lines and if you are a tourist, I pity you. Down the stairs to the platform.
Contrairement aux métros de Londres et de Paris, le métro de New York n'est pas facile à naviguer. Ils ont combiné trois lignes différentes et si vous êtes un touriste, je vous plains. En bas des escaliers jusqu'à la plate-forme.
In 15 minutes - Brooklyn. We went to lunch with our kids (here are Emma and Tommy laughing about something)
and afterwards, Phil and I walked through Park Slope to get back to Jessica's. Everywhere, brownstones being renovated. I love that neighborhood!
Dans 15 minutes - Brooklyn! Nous sommes allés déjeuner et après, nous avons promené un peu par "Park Slope" qui est à côté du quartier ou Jessica habite. Partout des brownstones en cours de rénovation. J'aime ce quartier!
So that was our Saturday. The rest of the week - back to packing and cleaning. See you!
