Happiness is a day in NY

It has been waaaaaay too long since I've been in the City. Not that easy when you live in Florida -- but I'm in NJ now, so yesterday was a treat. Weekend after this one I'll be back in NY visiting my daughter Jessica and family, and my Gillman kids. But that's another post.

Yesterday, Hilary and I drove into the city and parked on the roof of the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Here was my first view -- one I never tire of. What a wonderful building!

We planned to see a Broadway show, sw we walked up to the TKTS booth near Lincoln Center - a brisk 20 block walk (that's a NY mile), to buy tickets at a discount.

When you stand in line, you start chatting with the people around you

The woman in front of us has seen about every show on the planet and she raved about Dear Evan Hansen (a must-see if you want to pay $175 for a discount price ticket) and Waitress, which she said was cute and was half the price. So, Waitress is was!

We had some time before the 2:00 show so we grabbed lunch at Rosa Mexicano. Yes, there was food, too.

Then we walked to the theatre on 47th St.It felt as though I had never left.

Finally, we got in the long line of ticket-holders waiting for the theatre to open.

I wouldn't call the show Waitress "cute." It was fabulous and far from frivolous! Funny,poignant, with an outstanding cast and super music. If you are anywhere around New York City, don't miss it! The story will stay with me for a long time.

An extra bonus was Al Roker, who played the owner of the diner and was just perfect int the role. He's only doing it for a limited time and not every performance - but we got lucky.

On the walk back to the bus terminal, had to get a photo of this board on 8th Ave. LOL. gotta love it.

Finally, when we reached the roof of the Port Authority, I spotted this building in the other direction from the one I had seen in the morning.

A perfect ending to a perfect day. Symmetry.
